First off, make sure you have everything you need to do the gig gear wise. It's not a bad idea to have a checklist of your set up and go through everything before the gig. Knowing that everything is ther and working properly is one less thing to be nervous about. When you set up at the gig, take your time and make sure everything is right.OK, are you prepared musically? Got the songs you will be performing down, know your parts? if yes, then you have one less thing to worry about. Still nervous? It's perfectly natural to be. Just keep a couple of ideas in your thoughts.
1, you are sharing your gift of music to the audience. Most of them probably do not play an instrument let alone in a band. You are expressing yourself through the music you play.
2, Transfer that nervous energy into your playing. What brought you here is your love of music and the ability to play, so focus on that. You should calm down after the first or second song.
And have fun, you do enjoy playing, right? One or two bad notes out of how many hundreds you play is not the end of the world, it just means your human like the rest of us. Hope this helps. |

My advice would be be well rehearsed. No the tunes forward and backward so you will have one less thing to think about. _________________ www.leecarlsonmusic.com |

when you take your first step onstage present yourself as confident from the very start. if you do this it is easier to feel confident through out the show. if you let them see you sweat once, its harder (not impossible) to get that high level of confidence back in your own mind because you feel that they are seeing you as when they should be seeing you as . got it? good. |

When the crowd cheers when you go on stage just remember that they've turned up to see you, therefore must think you're good in some way or another,
If.. on the other hand they throw dog shit at you... maybe not. _________________ I was a baby when I learned to suck! But you have raised it to an art form... |

i think every musician is a little nervous before the show starts. however once the first intro is started it should go away.
good luck

hey,
I have to admit, like already mentioned here, that experience is the best cure.
When i first started out performing, my heart beated very fast and I was pretty nervous. Nowadays I'm very relaxed on stage.
You might want to check out the book: 'The Inner Game of Music' by barry green with Timothy Gallwey.
Its a great book to overcome stagefreight.
