Please share your experiences with guitar lessons  Reply with quote

Hi all

I am conducting some general research into guitar lessons and am very interested to hear from anyone who has had formal lessons with a teacher, be it privately or at an institution or university.

If anyone could take the time to address some questions that would be great:

What did you like about your lessons?
What did you dislike about your lessons?
What was the frequency and duration of your lessons?
Why did you stop?
How long did you have lessons with that particular teacher?
Any other comments welcome....

Thanks

What did you like about your lessons?

Guitar teacher was sweet middle-aged lady. I liked learning how to play my guitar, the chords and melodies. The very best thing is that my lessons gave me the foundation of fingering and very basics of music theory.

What did you dislike about your lessons?

I was young and felt some pressure about my "homework" at first, which wasn't even that much, just writing down note names from staff melodies. Although later we worked on beginning of Stairway to Heaven, lots of songs were like Buffalo Girls and Claire de Lune for beginner.

What was the frequency and duration of your lessons?

Once a week, during school times. For 3 or 4 years.

Why did you stop?

Was getting bit bored with playing Big Rock Candy Mountain and such, and was ready to move on by learning more music theory on my own, and practicing what I wanted to (metal licks and rock and roll!).
